Dear microscopists,
if you have been waiting for the invitation to the FILM Club this
month, unfortunately I have to disappoint you. Despite hard negotiations
up to the last minute, I haven't managed to convince anybody to present
their work. This is of course very disappointing, but it is a reminder
that the whole point about the FILM Club is the exchange of knowledge
and expertise between microscopists, through simple, informal
presentations of their work. But fact is - if nobody presents, it won't
happen.
So on this occasion, my appeal to you: If you think it's a good idea,
you have to contribute. Every month I try hard to convince users to do
so, and thankfully several of you have done so in the past, but it can
be very frustrating, everyone is busy, and pressure from supervisor
typically has priority. My appeal also goes to supervisors: If you think
this is a good thing for your people, that they can learn new
techniques, get ideas, start collaborations and eventually do better
science, we need your help. You are much more likely to convince your
people to give a presentation than I possibly could.
From the FILM perspective, as much as I'm convinced of it and have
enjoyed past presentations, this really is primarily for you users. We
in the facility get to see first-hand the full range of experiments done
by FILM users anyway, this really is very much for you.
Hoping for LOTS of feedback and many more exciting FILM CLubs; good imaging,
Martin
