Dear colleague,

In order to cope with many of the current challenges in biology, one must understand how collective behaviour arises from microscopic interactions. The techniques that address these questions define the field of complex systems, which is by its nature inter-disciplinary and requires joint efforts between biologists, and scientists with a more theoretical background.

We are organising a meeting on complex systems and biology that will take place in Manchester on the 15th of May. The aim is to bring together those with an interest in biological questions which can be addressed with methods from physics, mathematics or computer science. The meeting is especially targeted at PhD students and post-docs. Four invited speakers will talk in the morning. Short talks by PhD students and post-docs will be given in the afternoon.
