Dear microscopists,

a reminder of our image competition, , the FILM IMAGE OF THE YEAR
2013-14! There was some confusion in the original announcement, so we
have now extended the deadline to _*1st of December!*_ And in case you
wanted to submit and couldn't find the folder on the FILM Server, it's
now definitely there, with the correct name (FIOTY 2013-14). Just copy
your images out with a nice description and confirm by email to
<film-service at imperial.ac.uk>.

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Molecular Probes / Life
Technologies, attractive prizes are waiting:

*Winner *- an*iPod Nano*! ...for those long hours at the microscope
_Runners-up_: a beautiful _A3 poster calendar_, worth £23!

*EXTENDED deadline* for submission of your images: _*1st of December 2013*_

_*Judges *_
As in previous years, we have a prestigious panel of independent judges

    _Rules for participation_

  * Up to 3 images per participant; they must show different samples
(not different versions of the same image)
  * Images must have been taken on FILM microscopes (original data files
    must be made available)
  * Images will be judged purely on their visual impression, they do not
need to show any scientific results, but a description of the
scientific context is encouraged (and might make it more interesting
    for the judges)
  * The best possible visualisation of the image data is encouraged
(e.g. contrast enhancement, look-up tables), but manipulation of
pixel data is not allowed - the scientific content must still
visible. Examples of manipulations not allowed are adding / removing
of objects (retouching) or collages (copying objects together)
  * By submitting the images, participants grant FILM the right to make
the entries publicly available on the FILM website, use them for the
calendars or other presentations describing research peformed in the
facility; please make sure they don't contain any identifiable
    unpublished information

For inspirations from previous years and details see the website:
