DOM level 1 core

The first public draft of the W3C Document Object Model Core Level 1
was released at the end of last week, at http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-DOM.
The DOM is an interface to allow manipulation of HTML and XML
documents in a platform- and language-neutral way, so obviously we
want to know what XML developers think of what we've been working on.

DOM Level 1 contains document navigation and manipulation, and the
basic framework on which we'll be building the other parts of the
DOM, like the event and style models. We are still working on the
HTML and XML parts of the specification, which will contain functions
that HTML script authors will probably use, and ways of getting at
the DTD and other XML-specific things. We'll be releasing these for
comments and feedback soon.

The DOM WG and IG would appreciate feedback on whether the interface
is going in the right direction, whether it will be useful, whether
it's missing something important, whether it's too complicated and
could be made simpler, etc. If you have any comments, please send
them to www-dom at w3.org (to subscribe, email www-dom-request at w3.org
with the subject "subscribe"). Lots of us are also on this mailing
list, of course.

cheers,

Lauren
