I agree entirely with your last point -- in fact, in the most recent
two pre-releases, a return value of null means 'let the parser perform
the default action' rather than 'skip the entity' (it is still
possible for an application to skip an entity by returning an empty
CharacterStream or ByteStream, but that is no longer an
officially-document part of SAX).
