NO.
IMO the XML community has not had enough experience of ignorable whitespace
to agree on how to treat it. It can only be ignored if enough DTD-related
information is given. I believe that anyone who needs to deal with it is
probably going to have to use this themselves. In time I very much hope
that we *shall* come up with protocols for this.
