| Here is the RXP/LT-XML output:

| [actual output snipped]

FWIW, this agrees with the canonical XML that xmlproc outputs (after I
modified it a couple of hours ago):

<test>
<test a="test test"></test>
<test a="test test"></test>
<test a="test test"></test>
<test a="

test

test

"></test>
<test a="testtest"></test>
<test a="

test

test

"></test>
</test>

"These are, as I began, cumbersome ways / to kill a man. Simpler, direct,
and much more neat / is to see that he is living somewhere in the middle /
of the twentieth century, and leave him there." -- Edwin Brock
