Stateful http xml middleware w/ servlets?

Hi,

Has anyone done the above?  Making a bus-architecture xml http-based
middleware using servlets is "easy".  But then you haven't got any state
like you would with Corba, RMI, etc.

But what about using the Session capabilities of the servlet libraries?
Maybe with a proxy object on the client side that would represent the
server & session to the client, and always include the session id when
talking to the server?  Information producers on the server side would
be given session data with each invocation.  Just thinking out loud
here...
