Whence XQL?

I missed the start of this thread.  Did the poster really want to know
where XQL came from (whence), or was the poster interested in where
it's going (whither)?

Since SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE swept the Oscars, I expect people to get
their 16th-century English usage right.
