Actually, a PS or PDF to XML converter would gain next to nothing from FOP.

Note that PS -> XML is not that bad if your XML is itself a page description
markup language but I'm guess that's not what the original poster wanted.

P.S. wouldn't a PS to XML converter violate the second law of
thermodynamics?! :-)
