Apologies for a 4 day gap in monitoring, been away at a Conference.
Can I take this opportunity to re-iterate that email attachments are
deprecated at this list. We received the Melissa virus via such an attachment,
and in the example below a vbs (visual basic ?) file is bound to raise suspicions.
Can I please ask all list members NOT to send attachments. If you have
some information to send us, include it in the body.
Can I also indicate that vcf cards are also not welcome.
For the specific file below, I have (carefully) examined it, firstly
with Norton antivirus 6.0 (September update) and found nothing.
Microsoft Word visual basic macro editor also finds the file entirely
empty. This may be because Norton has already removed anything offending
before I opened it, or perhaps because the file WAS empty (in which case
I have to ask Bob Harris why he is sending an empty attachment),
or perhaps because it might contain something too clever
Whatever the diagnosis, I would strongly recommend that you do
NOT attempt to process this file, and you should delete it, and check
your disk with an up to date virus checker.
Meanwhile, I will attempt to prevent this list from redistributing
attachments.
