Actually, the claim that men are born innocent and corrupted by the world
goes back at least as far as Plato (see, for example, his myth of the
Demiorgos and recalcitrant matter).

Regarding Didier's point that contracts once made should not be broken; and
that changing an interface incompatibly represents breaking a contract; I
agree.
