It stands a good chance. People actually check the standardization
before going forward. Some also hang back waiting for stable
implementations. A lot depends on the value of the information
to be marked up. SVG will do well. We will experiment with VML
to get a feel for markup in graphics, then move on out with SVG
when the timing is right.
Considering that using markup for graphics used to be a killing
offense, we have come a long ways.
