You are on the right track. In fact, there is a lot of discussion going on
Java2XML serialization for quite a while already. To say more, JSXML
<http://www.camb.opengroup.org/~laforge/jxml.html>) is a Java/XML
serialization API that Bill la Forge at "The Open Group" works on.

It may be also interesting for you to check XLogo
