Which is why I brought up the subject of groves and property sets.
Documents conforming to the topic map architecture, like documents
conforming to other inheritable information architectures, have
semantic properties that emerge when they are processed (made ready
for some useful application-defined purpose).  Property sets are a
good way to give names to those properties, so that the mapping
between any application's internal representation (including internal
representations that take the form of relational tables) and the
underlying abstract data model (the property set) of the inheritable
interchange architecture can be rigorous, testable, and easy to
implement without guesswork, and so that the properties represented by
the application-internal form can be addressed by other documents and
their applications.
