XSchema and SOX.

XSchema, XML-Data, DCD and SOX are all proposal for XML-based representation
of schema information.  XSchema was a product of this list and has no W3C
status.  The other three have been submitted to the W3C as a note.
Hopefully all four are being considered in a W3C working group on XML
schemas and an unified standard will emerge.

XSchema is available at http://purl.oclc.org/NET/xschema.  You might want to
check http://www.oasis-open.org/cover/xml.html#xml-XSchema for more
background on XSchema, DCD etc.

Currently, the Microsoft IE5 parser supports something in between XML-Data
and DCD, but has no support for XSchema (that I know of).

I think most people that are using the XML-based schema languages are using
them as a higher-level language for schema generation and then converting
them down to the universally recognized DTD.  Just like a C++ and Delphi
parser would result in the univerally understood Intel-byte code :).
Myself, I'm using a DCD variant that I have enhanced with documentation
elements and am building DTD's and HTMLHelp documentation from a unified
source.  Until the W3C working group gets further in its progress, I think
that translation down to DTD's is required.
