I really like the idea of addressing some of these issues in this forum
in a way complementary to the work done by the W3C, which of course is
extremely valuable. In this context I have a question: how many Java
developers are reading this mail and would be potentially interested in
participating in an open-source project centered around Java/XML?
Basically we are considering releasing some of our internal code as OSS
and it would be great to get a feeling for how many qualified people
would at least consider investing time in such a project. As someone
pointed out when this list started discussing XSchema, the SAX project
was successful because there were commitments from the very start from
application developers to implement the interface when completed. A
concrete implementation of a extensible architecture for XML processing
(Im being intentionally vague) would presumably be a great help in
testing new ideas and even creating usable code, be if for alternative
schema approaches, namespace-aware validation or whatever. But we only
want to do this if there is sufficient potential interest in the
developer community.

If anyone wants more details, please send me a private mail and I will
send you a short summary of our current system and our future plans for
it.

Thanks in advance,
Matthew
