I went over the earlier mails and found nary a word on processing
instructions.  Were you painting with a broad brush in your discussion of 
drawbacks?

Isn't that the cart before the horse?  

When the entire XML initiative is still without clear cut answers for
these problems, why must the XHTML spec take upon itself to pronounce upon
such matters in some definitive fashion?  In fact, you have just made the
definitive argument for the XHTML spec, as an initial effort, to
scrupulously avoid making any statements on namespaces at all! 

Or is this a trial balloon for a fait accompli?
