Granted the Java concept came from Sun, but many of the Java APIs are the
product of a collaborative effort. For example, when specifying JDBC, Sun
worked with IBM and database companies.

XML is not the invention of a single company. The XML specs are a
collaborative effort. The XML/XSL working groups include participants from a
variety of W3C members, including IBM.
